Web Comic Logo Gallery
"I've had a look at the gallery and I wish something like it had been available when I was designing my logo; having a bunch of examples in a central location would have been very useful to see what worked and what didn't. And of course it's interesting in its own right, not just as a reference source."
- Owen Heitmann
This gallery started pure but soon expanded beyond its vision. It turns out that relatively few web comics have distinct logos, and many use their page header art in lieu of a logo.
I decided to expand the original goal to include header art as long as the text was limited to comic title, artist name and slogan. Items like update days and navigation buttons are not allowed. (Headers are the page mastheads, like the Psychedelic Treehouse logo above.)
Consequently, most of this gallery consists of header art rather than true logos. I think it remains useful as a historical snapshot, idea center and browsing zone.
Were web comics creators to more fully embrace the logo concept, it would open up the possibility of a link center based on graphics instead of text.
The logos and headers included were not screened for quality, though many of them are beautiful. People will find their own favorites and their own dogs. Often, examples of what not to do are as instructive as any how-to.
